Embracing the Glimmers: The Journey to 'Shimmers of Hope'

Today, I want to share "Shimmers of Hope" with you, so grab a cup of coffee; it's going to be a cozy read.

The Essence of Glimmers

Before I tell you about the experience that inspired this painting, I want to talk about "glimmers," a concept introduced by Deb Dana. They are the opposite of triggers: small connections in the body that help the nervous system feel calmer. These are micro-moments of awe that create a shift within, bringing feelings of ease, calm, and hope.

Motherhood and Transformation

These are the glimmers I experienced on my journey into motherhood. My life had changed completely overnight. I remember a very particular moment after being moved into the postpartum room, lying there in the dark, looking at Becky through the clear glass of the hospital bassinet. I was in tears, overwhelmed by the thought that I was now a mother, responsible for such a tiny human being in such a big world. In that moment, I knew I wanted to give her everything, but I was also terrified I might do it all wrong.

The first few days and weeks were hard, and there were many moments where I felt like I was losing hope. I wondered if I would ever feel like myself again. This is when I started to notice the small things, like the feeling of warm water on my skin, the delicious taste of hot chocolate, or the peaceful quiet during her night feedings. I began to look for these micro-moments in the day-to-day.

These fragments of beauty and connection offered me glimpses—or shimmers—of hope that blossomed into my source of strength.

Art Imitates Life

In "Shimmers of Hope", I've poured these very experiences onto the canvas. It symbolizes the micro-moments that happen around us every day but can go completely unnoticed—like the beauty of a sunset, the stars scattered across the night sky, the playful dance of light that unexpectedly catches your eye. It speaks of the warmth of a stranger's smile, the comforting caress of sunlight on your skin, and the heartfelt gesture of someone's kindness.

Invitation to Reflect and Connect

Like many of you, I've faced moments when the path ahead seemed shrouded in uncertainty. This painting invites you to pause and reflect on the simple joys that illuminate our lives. May it serve as a reminder that even in the darkest times, there are glimmers of light waiting to be seen.
